Goan Rawa Fish Fry
A simple quick fish dish I learnt to make on my recent trip to Goa. Its made everywhere in Goa using different types of fish or Prawns
This recipe is from my pal Rahul in Goa who runs his own cookery school in Palolem – if in South Goa you got to check him out.
I love to make this with Pomfret personally but also great with Kingfish and also Prawns too.
Ingredients
- 3-4 Pomfret
- 1-2 Tblsps of Oil (Can use Coconut oil if you prefer)
- 200 grams of semolina – its call Rawa in Hindi
- Large handful of roughly chopped fresh coriander for garnish
- Lemon or lime to squeeze over at the end just before serving
For the Marinade
- 2tbsp garlic ginger paste
- 1-2tsps of salt
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 4 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon/lime juice (love to use the small Indian limes/lemons if you can get hold of them from your local Asian supermarket)
- 3 tsp red chilli powder
- ½ tsp of Garam Masala
Instructions
- Clean and wash your Pomfret and pat dry with a kitchen roll and make 2-3 slits on each side
- Marinate the fish with your marinade and let it rest for 15-30 mins
- Coat your marinated Pomfret in your semolina (rawa) on both sides
- Heat approx. 1 tablespoon of oil in a large frying pan and depending on the thickness of the fish cook on each side for approx. 3-5mins until golden on each side.
- Serve simply with fresh lemon or lime, chopped coriander, some red onion and dips of your choice and maybe a fresh salad and def a cold beer!
ENJOY – May the Spice be with you!
